Will Fournier & FRIENDS
A digital folk kaleidoscope, rooted in organic influences The folktronica sound of Live @ The Hattery by Will Fournier & FRIENDS is a confluence of paradoxes between nature and technology, ecstasy and stillness, improvisation and production, electronic and acoustic, community and solitude, tradition and the cutting edge. With roots in traditional songwriting and branches reaching out across so many genres and production techniques, it is a living folk experience for the digital age. Co-produced by Evanji, Live @ The Hattery will appeal to fans of artists such as The Beatles, The National Parcs, City and Color and Squarepusher. Based in the electronic music hotbed of Montreal, Will Fournier has lived a life full of organic musical influences from the very beginning. His music is a tapestry of acoustic guitar, insightful lyrics, highly organic percussion using everything from djembes to propane tanks, wobbly bass and synth, and sampled sounds, many of which were recorded by Fournier at festivals. The collaborative vibe is joyful and infectious, often recorded at festivals where Fournier can channel his friends' vocal and instrumental talents in their natural habitat. The overall result is a psychedelic mural of sound, with the unique ability to bridge audiences from traditional folk music lovers to the electronica & club scene. "My goal was to create an album that could break down unnecessary barriers of genre — something that could tickle the brain, move the body and most of all uplift the spirit," says Fournier, who is currently studying for his Masters' in phenomenology. "I'm proud to say that I think Live @ The Hattery accomplishes exactly that." |
