He’s Musical Director to stars like R&B Crooner Frankie Beverly and Grammy Nominated Saxophonist Boney James. His songs have been recorded by highly respected artists like Jonathan Butler, Steve Perry of Journey and others.
And his mastery of the bass guitar can be heard on over 300 CD’s both nationally and internationally.

We’re speaking of veteran Christian recording artist, bassist, vocalist, songwriter and producer Larry Kimpel. Since his professional debut in 1977, this Chicago Native has just about done it all! While traveling extensively throughout the world as a touring musician Larry has had the pleasure of sharing the stage with artists as diverse
as Alanis Morissette, Anita Baker, George Duke, Larry Carlton and many others. As a studio musician of course he’s played on a ton of CD’s, but Larry has also done film scores with bassist and composer Stanley Clarke and TV themes with pioneering contemporary jazz saxophonist Tom Scott as well as TV composer Kurt Farquhar. Larry
also had the pleasure of working with Tom Scott on the HBO live charity special “Comic Relief 6” starring Robin Williams, Whoopi Goldberg and Billy Crystal.

But Larry’s somewhat hidden talent up until now has been his powerful 2nd Tenor singing voice. Super Vocalist Rachelle Ferrell was the first to recognize Larry’s gift and so she then brought Larry out front to stand-in for vocalist Will Downing on her romantic duet “Nothing has ever felt like this” during her live performances in the
mid 1990’s. Let’s just suffice to say that none of her adoring fans around the world were ever disappointed with her choice. Since then, Larry has gone on to release three solo CD’s entitled “Be still and know” , “The Music Inside” and “Christmas in L.A.“ on his own indie label GVR Records and Entertainment. Upon hearing one of Larry’s
tracks Grammy Winning Country Artist Alannah Miles [“Black Velvet”] said once in a quote; “Larry Kimpel has got a simply gorgeous and soulful voice!”

To sum it all up, Larry Kimpel is a force to be reckoned within the entertainment industry. He’s been behind the scenes for long enough and so now it’s time for him to spread his wings and fly high above the clouds! Stay tuned… because we predict that the best is truly yet to come for him.
